A French lawmaker who is pushing for a ban on the erectile dysfunction drug has been accused of illegally buying a generic version of Viagra, according to a report on the Internet.
The British Medical Journal reported on Monday that the lawmaker is accusing a man from the US of buying Viagra for his personal use. The drug was first made in France in 2003, and since 2013, has been on the black list of erectile dysfunction drugs, the Journal reports.
In 2012, the European Commission said that the European Medicines Agency had approved Viagra as an aid to treating impotence, but the German government has yet to approve the drug.
But French officials who claim that Viagra is “a cheaper alternative to erectile dysfunction drugs” are pushing for a ban on the drug.

The European Commission is also asking the US Food and Drug Administration to ban the drug, but has not yet taken a decision, the agency said.
